Knowing how much activity you need can be difficult, so we’ve compiled a guide:

Between 3,000-6,000 steps per day: You are a bit active

Between 6,000-9,000 steps per day: You are active

Over 9,000 steps per day: Congratulations! You are very active

For maximum health and fitness getting over 9,000 steps per day is the most commonly recommended goal.

  1. Take the Stairs

Taking the stairs is the best way to get where you’re going, plus get a quick workout in. Taking the stairs improves your metabolism, burns calories, and keeps your heart healthy. Whenever you’re able, take the stairs! It’s definitely worth the effort.

  1. Get Up Often

Our lifestyles are generally quite sedentary since we’re often sitting at work, sitting on the couch, sitting in the car, you get the picture. Whenever you can, get up and walk around for a few minutes. If you can, try out a standing desk at work. A good idea is to set a timer every hour, get up and walk around or stretch for few minutes every time the timer goes off.

  1. Park Far From the Entrance

This trick is so simple and you’ll hardly even notice the difference. Whenever you go out try and park further away from the entrance to give yourself a bit of a walk. Your body could always use the extra minutes of activity, plus it’s always nice to get some fresh air.

  1. Clean Your House

Believe it or not, doing your household chores can actually be a workout. Many chores involve movement, and it also gets you off the couch for a little while. Next time you need to dust or vacuum, motivate yourself with the knowledge you’re going to be helping your health!

  1. Stretch Often

Whether you want to stretch before you go to bed at night or when you first wake up (better yet, both!), stretching is great for your body.
